80/20% Eden/Barossa Valley; 95/5% shiraz/cabernet sauvignon, from vines on average 30yo. Wild fermented; matured in 5% new French oak barrels. Fruit integrity over oak and artefact is a winning recipe. Glossy and vibrant Barossa shiraz, brimming with spicy black fruits of all kinds, fresh licorice straps, neatly supported by dark chocolate oak and finely textured tannins. Deep blackberry, plum and liquorice with pepper, cedar and earthy spice. Rich and succulent, yet fresh and balanced, with chalky tannins and a long, juicy savoury finish.

Enjoy with Rib-eye or grilled steak, roast lamb, beef short ribs, venison, mushroom dishes or a hearty barbecue.

Winery Profile

Very much a rising star, Alex Head has taken the long path to wine-making, starting with a degree in Biochemistry at Sydney University, then stints in fine wine retail, wholesale importers and auction houses. He followed this with vintage at a handful of superb Australian wineries including Torbreck and Tyrrells, before heading out on his own, with his first releases in 2008.

Already rated a 5-star producer by James Halliday and named one of his Top Ten Best New Wineries for 2011, Alex's wines are inspired by the wines of France's Cote Rotie, in particular, and are produced in quantities of at most one or two barrels.
