Winery Tasting Notes

Notes Image

Colour

The appearance is bright with a medium straw colour and hints of golden yellow, indicating the richness of extended maturation.

Aroma

The initial bouquet displays stone fruit characters of peach and nectarine, while the background shows more savoury notes of citrus marmalade and creamy, buttered toast.

Palate

On entry the flavour is predominantly peaches and vanilla cream with a twist of lemon butter. Towards the middle palate it builds intensity and body showing butterscotch and yeasty bread complexity. The tannin and acid combination give a firm palate structure that finishes smooth and dry. Extended cellar maturation retains freshness whilst allowing the wine to develop a full, rounded palate profile with richness and sophistication.

Food Matching

This Chardonnay has wide food friendly appeal. During the cooler months I like to serve it not too cold at around 12 degrees (about 30 minutes in the fridge from the cellar) it’s great with veal scaloppini or pasta dishes with a cheesy carbonara sauce. As we move into spring and summer serve it slightly colder which brings the citrus character to the fore where it’s great with beer battered fish and toasted ham and cheese croque monsieur.

Cellaring Potential

Further cellaring of this Chardonnay is not essential. It has had over four and a half years barrel and tank maturation before bottling and is now being released ready to enjoy. It will store well and deliver a pleasurable drinking experience over the next several years.

Winery Profile

Brand Profile Image

Hope Estate wines express the deep individuality of our land and vines. All our wines are estate grown, we never dilute our character with other people’s fruit. So we bring you uniquely regional styles of wine.

The finesse and elegance that comes from the red Hunter soil. The European-style subtlety of our Victorian vineyards. And the length and concentrated fruit that only Western Australian maritime climate vineyards can create.

The Hunter has our largest vineyards, focused on the varieties that the region does best: Shiraz, Semillon, Chardonnay and Verdelho.

Our Kyneton vineyards produce intense flavours from low-yield vines. Its most famous product is Virgin Hills, a wine of remarkable Old World finesse that James Halliday nominated as his ‘desert island wine’.

Our Donnybrook vineyard in WA is best known for The Ripper and The Cracker, two vivid fruit-driven reds that are among our most popular wines.

Hope Estate wines are sought-after overseas, with much of our product taken by discerning US and UK buyers.

You can experience Hope Estate’s wines at our cellar door 7 days a week. We’re just re-working our web site right now, so the web store will be off-line for a few weeks. If you’d like to place an order, download the form here Order Form – Feb 2016 and email or fax. Cheers!
