Sandalford Winemakers Merlot 2019 (12x 750mL) WA

Description:

Vintage

The 2019 vintage was a return to the fantastic conditions that WA is known for. The preceding winter and early spring rainfall provided a good base of ground water for the vines to thrive. November was warm and dry, setting up the vines perfectly through flowering and fruit set. An extended, dry and warm summer through to the end of picking in mid-April, produced outstanding fruit to make wine from. All grapes harvested this season are of exceptional quality and showing great varietal characteristics.

The Story

The Winemakers Range is all about delivering quite simply the best Western Australian wine at the best price. These wines are typically a blend of both the Margaret River and Swan Valley regions. The riper, richer notes from the Swan Valley compliment the cooler climate, elegant and sophisticated characters from Margaret River. These wines are all about balance, harmony and drinkability without burning a hole in your purse or wallet! So go on, have a crack and let us know the outcome! As always, enjoy in moderation.

Winemakers Blurb

Usual stuff here … Ben (with some help) picked it, then Troy and Greg crushed it into the fermenter. Troy rehydrated the yeast and then it was fermented. It was on skins for about a week before being pressed to separate the wine and the skins. The wine was then left for a period of time to mature before blending and bottling.

Winery Tasting Notes

Notes Image

This is another one of those easy drinking, moreish wines. It’s all about the fruit – plums and blackberry conserve, with savoury spices on the end. Its soft and juicy and before you know it, the bottle will be all gone. Don’t wait, drink it now.

Winery Profile

Red 5 Star Winery James Halliday, Austarlian Wine Companion 2011 Edition

"RED 5 STAR WINERY – Sandalford is an outstanding winery regularly producing wines of exemplary quality and typicity.”

Australia’s most pre-eminent wine critic, James Halliday, awards Sandalford Wines the very coveted RED 5 star rating in the Australian Wine Companion 2011 Edition.

Sandalford Wines was established in 1840 and is today privately owned by the Prendiville family.

In the early 1970’s Sandalford was one of the pioneers in establishing vineyards in the Margaret River planting 96 hectares in the sub region of Wilyabrup. It is this old, dry grown vineyard that is the source of the Prendiville Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon and the Estate Reserve range of wines. These wines under the winemaking expertise of Paul Boulden are superb examples of Margaret River at its best, winning praise from notable wine writers and a series of trophies and gold medals at both national and international wine shows.

A new addition to the Sandalford portfolio is the Margaret River Range of wines positioned at the “midprice point” of today’s premium market. It is the fastest growing segment of the wine market and with Sandalford’s world class resources in Margaret River, this range has been developed to tap into this consumer trend. The wines are sourced from a combination of the Sandalford Estate and other premium vineyards in the Margaret River with wine styles reflecting current consumer tastes for vibrant, up front varietal flavours.
