Sandalford Estate Reserve Verdelho 2019 (6 x 750mL) Margaret River, WA

Description:

Vintage

Whilst the majority of Australia had a hot summer with above average temperatures, the southwest corner of WA was blessed with a mild summer, with temperatures for the period falling below average. These milder conditions resulted in a delayed ripening for most varieties resulting in excellent flavour development within the grapes at harvest. With no disease pressure, all grapes were harvested with an optimum balance of sugar and flavours. The resulting wines show wonderful varietal characters.

Winemakers Comments

The Verdelho grapes from our Wilyabrup Estate Vineyard, were machine harvested in the very early hours of the 5th March, when the grapes were at their coolest. After which, the fruit was immediately processed at the winery and underwent a long, slow ferment in stainless steel tanks with a selected yeast strain. Once the fermentation was finished, immediate stabilisation, clarification and bottling occurred. Pristine fruit in a

bottle is more than apt to this style.

Expert Reviews

Machine-harvested, ferment in stainless steel tanks with selected yeast strain. A re-calibration of style. Here verdelho reveals another side and we like it. The usual tropical fruits are only hinted at here. Another path is chosen, one with citrus, herbal, chardonnay-like characters and honeysuckle. Tight line, acidity to burn, a very good verdelho and not what you might expect. Flavour lingers. Can take some extra chilling. - Jeni Port, Halliday Wine Companion

Winery Tasting Notes

Colour

Pale lemon

Palate

Fragrant orange blossoms, with quince paste and a hint of spiciness. This is one of my favourites. Definite floral notes, with citrus, honey and spice notes. It has a chalky minerality coming through giving this wine texture and a refreshing acid balance leading to wonderful length on the finish. It definitely has that drinkability factor. Drink now whilst young or for something different, this wine can be cellared. It will reward you as it evolves with age.

Brand Profile Image

Red 5 Star Winery James Halliday, Austarlian Wine Companion 2011 Edition

"RED 5 STAR WINERY – Sandalford is an outstanding winery regularly producing wines of exemplary quality and typicity.”

Australia’s most pre-eminent wine critic, James Halliday, awards Sandalford Wines the very coveted RED 5 star rating in the Australian Wine Companion 2011 Edition.

Sandalford Wines was established in 1840 and is today privately owned by the Prendiville family.

In the early 1970’s Sandalford was one of the pioneers in establishing vineyards in the Margaret River planting 96 hectares in the sub region of Wilyabrup. It is this old, dry grown vineyard that is the source of the Prendiville Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon and the Estate Reserve range of wines. These wines under the winemaking expertise of Paul Boulden are superb examples of Margaret River at its best, winning praise from notable wine writers and a series of trophies and gold medals at both national and international wine shows.

A new addition to the Sandalford portfolio is the Margaret River Range of wines positioned at the “midprice point” of today’s premium market. It is the fastest growing segment of the wine market and with Sandalford’s world class resources in Margaret River, this range has been developed to tap into this consumer trend. The wines are sourced from a combination of the Sandalford Estate and other premium vineyards in the Margaret River with wine styles reflecting current consumer tastes for vibrant, up front varietal flavours.
