The 16523 is the two-tone Rolesor Zenith Daytona — Rolex`s first automatic-movement Cosmograph generation, sitting between the manual-wind chronograph Daytonas and the in-house calibre 116523 that succeeded it in 2000; two-tone examples remain sought after for offering gold presence with steel-case durability at a lower entry point than full-gold references.
The slate grey dial is a notably scarcer colourway against the far more common black, white, and champagne dials seen on this reference, with a cool graphite tone that shifts under light and applied gold hour markers set against contrasting subdial registers.
Power comes from the calibre 4030, Rolex`s heavily modified version of the Zenith El Primero — the beat rate was slowed from El Primero`s native 36,000 vph to 28,800 vph, the date complication stripped out, and the escapement, regulator, and rotor reworked to
- Rolex`s own specification, making it the last Daytona generation to run a non-in-house base movement.
Presented in Excellent condition — crisp case and bracelet lines, well-maintained bezel and pusher gold surfaces, dial and hands free of notable blemishes.
