McGuigan Farms Shiraz 2011 (6 x 750mL) Barossa Valley, SA

Description:

The “Farms” is our premier vineyard hosting wonderful old vines that nurture intensely flavoured shiraz grapes. These grapes allow us to present this stunning wine that epitomises the very best of the Barossa Valley.

The fruit was harvested at optimal ripeness and fermented for 7-10 days in traditional 10 tonne open vats ensuring that the fruit was handled with ultimate care. The wine was then sent to American and French Hogsheads for malo-lactic fermentation before being racked and matured in oak for a further 12 months. Individual parcels were then tasted and blended to guarantee that it lived up to the highest of standards. The wine was then matured in oak for a further 8 months and sent to bottling.

Expert Reviews

The large letters of the McGuigan and of Farms Shiraz have been printed using a holographic technique, disappearing in a pale silver on cream paper on one angle, yet black (or near thereto) on another angel. This is somehow appropriate for a magical wine from the ?11 vintage in the Barossa Valley; it has all the fruit mouthfeel of the ?10 and ?12 vintages. - Halliday Wine Companion

Winery Tasting Notes

Colour

Deep crimson with purple tints

Aroma

A delightful explosion of black olive, spice and chocolate with hints of vanillin oak.

Palate

Rich blackberries and olives are beautifully integrated with vanillin oak. The huge flavour is wrapped up and balanced with lovely chewy, velvety tannins and a finish that lingers in the mouth. This wine is our homage to the ultimate Barossa Valley Shiraz.

Perfect when combined with rich red meats.
