Zilzie Mystery GSM 2018 (6 x 750mL) Barossa, SA

Description:

WINEMAKING

Barossa Grenache, Shiraz and Mataro parcels were harvested separately at optimal fruit maturities. Cold soaking of the Grenache and Mataro parcels was used for ideal colour and flavour extraction. This was followed by cool fermentation on skins for a period of eight days before being pressed. The wine underwent malolactic fermentation prior to maturation in oak barrels. Large format puncheon barrels were used along with smaller barriques to create a balance of oak and regional fruit characteristics.

VINTAGE

The growing season started off well, with the winter months experiencing slightly higher than average rainfall. January and February were warm and dry, whilst March and early April had average temperatures, without extremes, which was a perfect finish to vintage. Yields were slightly down due to the drier conditions over the summer months, however the slow ripening from the mild temperatures has allowed for great colour and flavour development.

Winery Profile

After nearly three decades of growing grapes for some of Australia’s best known wine brands, the Zilzie winery was built in 1999 with the first vintage released under the Zilzie name in 2000.

The increasingly popular and distinctive Selection 23 range was introduced in 2004, while 2008 saw the re-release of our Bulloak range.

2009 has seen the culmination of many years dedication to selective vineyard sourcing deliver the “REGIONAL COLLECTION” of Zilzie wines. We’ve combed Australia’s best known wine regions, specifically targeting the varieties they excel at, for exceptional grape parcels to produce these wines.

We’ve come a long way in 10 years, with our winery tripling in capacity, and our range growing from the humble beginnings of four varieties, to now include consumer favourites such as Pinot Grigio, Moscato and Rosé.

It’s not all about size, Zilzie is also recognised for its exceptional quality, having won 27 trophies in its short history and is the only winery from our region rated 4.5 stars by James Halliday in his 2009 Wine Companion.
