Colour:

Very deep crimson red, retaining impressive intensity with subtle garnet hues developing from its years of bottle ageing.

Aroma:

A richly perfumed bouquet of blackcurrant, dark cherry and cassis opens with fragrant violets, anise and warming spice. Intriguing hints of cedar, cigar box and tar add savoury depth, creating an aromatic profile that combines ripe fruit with classic Cabernet complexity.

Palate:

Concentrated and beautifully layered, delivering sweet blackcurrant, blackberry and ripe plum alongside liquorice, dark chocolate and subtle earthy spice. The fruit is generous and fleshy, balanced by fine-grained tannins and carefully integrated French oak. A fresh line of acidity maintains definition, carrying the wine into a long, persistent finish with lingering cassis, cedar and savoury nuances. An outstanding expression of Henschke's Eden Valley Cabernet, combining richness with elegance and the structure to reward careful cellaring.

Winery Profile

Henschke is one of the longest established family names in the Barossa and the Australian wine industry. Johann Christian Henschke first planted vines in Keyneton in 1861, producing his first commercial vintage in 1868.

The tradition of quality winemaking has passed down through the generations – today seeing Stephen Henschke and his wife, Prue, as winemaker and viticulturist respectively.

Awarded "International Red Winemaker of the Year" in 1996 at the London Wine Show, Stephen and Prue were in 2006, awarded Gourmet Traveller WINE magazine's "Winemaker of the Year" in recognition of winemaking excellence in both red and white wines. These Awards recognise the consistent and continuing success of this remarkable couple.

Prue has, for the last 18 years, explored and now employs both organic and biodynamic strategies to maximise the potential for the fruit from these unique vineyards to fully express their individual terroirs.
