Cross Section Shiraz 2018 (6 x 750mL) Manjimup, WA

Description:

WINEMAKING NOTES

The fruit was machine picked then de-stemmed/crushed into open fermenters and inoculated. The ferments were pumped over with aeration twice a day; temperature was held around 25°C. The wine was then drained to barrel for its Malo-lactic fermentation, allowing a soft integration of the grape and oak tannins. The wine was blended, fined with egg whites and bottled after 12 months maturation. The wine is further aged in bottle before release.

VINTAGE REPORT

The 2018 Vintage will be regarded as one of the great vintages for the south west of Western Australia. Mild days and cool nights allowed for the accumulation of sugars, the slow development of elegant varietal flavours, retention of crisp natural acidity and perfectly ripened tannins. Dry conditions persisted allowing all fruit, both white and red, to ripen to perfection before being brought into the winery.

Expert Reviews

It is beautifully ripe and fragrant on the nose showing dark plum, dried cherry, thyme, olive and roasted nut characters, followed by a supple palate that is nicely rounded and silky. It is up front and flavoursome with plenty of tasty flavours. At its best: now to 2025. AU$22.00. www.graphiteroad.com.au. Sept 2019. - 91 Points, Wine Orbit | Sam Kim | Sept 2019
