Mezzo Cabernet Sauvignon 2017 (12 x 750mL) SA

Description:

Mezzo is a celebration of one of South Australia’s hidden gems. TheTatiara district located half (mezzo) way between Melbourne and Adelaide.

This is ideal Cabernet country, having classic terra rossa over limestone soils and a cool climate for extended ripening; the ideal conditions for growing high quality fruit.

The name ‘Mezzo’ is a not only a reference to this wonderful location, but a nod to the heritage of Italian locals who built and managed the original Cuppa Cup vineyard in the 1980’s.

Fruit for MEZZO Cabernet Sauvignon was picked in mid-April 2017 using a Pellenc Harvester, which de-stems and removes MOG (matter other than grapes) in the vineyard.

Following harvest the fruit was fermented in both open and closed-top 10T static fermenters, with grapes spending between 8-10 days on skins.

Our winemaker chose to cool ferment the Cabernet Sauvignon to enhance aromatics and maintain fruit purity. Seasoned, fine-grained second and third-fill French oak Hogsheads (90%) were used for 12 months maturation, with the remaining portion (10%) being treated to new French oak.
