St Hugo is named after Johann’s grandson Hugo Gramp a key figure at Orlando Wines. It is the very best Jacob’s Creek Cabernet Sauvignon and as such bears the 'Jacob’s Creek Winemakers' endorser. This St Hugo was first launched in 1983 and has always had a signature style of power & elegance that has continued every vintage.

Tasted as part of a 30 year vertical of St Hugo Coonawarra Cabernet Sauvignon hosted at the Jacob’s Creek winery at Rowland Flat in the Barossa Valley in September 2013. The style of St Hugo cabernet has altered over the years but it clearly has been, and still is, at the more elegant end of the Coonawarra cabernet spectrum. Ratings are as the wine appears now rather than as it may have scored in better days.

Well composed wine. Still has some primary, curranty, berried fruit. Violets and tobacco, blackcurrant and mint. Not an outstanding wine but still showing more than a touch of class. Was matured in French and American oak hogsheads for 20 months. Still going strong as a 23 year old. Rating 91 - Campbell Mattinson, Drink 2012+, Wine Front (SEP/2013)

This wine is made entirely from Cabernet Sauvignon grown in South Australia’s famous Coonawarra region, an area considered by many as Australia’s best Cabernet region. The result is a full-bodied wine displaying a rich, textured palate of concentrated cassis and berry fruit flavours with well-integrated tannins.

We take the time to individually inspect each bottle and photograph it so you know exactly what you are buying. All Private Cellar wine stored at GraysOnline is kept in a temperature controlled wine storage area. Any wine that doesn’t meet our quality standards will not be sold.

Wines displaying a 5 star designation are recognised as being of proven quality provenance, our team has verified that the wine has been stored correctly from original purchase straight from the winery, documentation, where possible, has been sighted and cellaring conditions have been inspected. This wine generally comes from only the best and most respected of wine collectors in Australia.

Wines displaying a 4 star designation have been cellared correctly as verified by the current owners. In general these wines have been purchased from retailers or traders and stored in cellared conditions from original purchase.

Storing the wine and allowing it to age has the potential to improve the quality of the wine. While wine is perishable and capable of deteriorating, storing the wine can alter the aroma, colour, mouthfeel and taste of the wine in a way that may be more pleasing to the taster.
