Winery Tasting Notes

Colour

The appearance is deep plum red with crimson hues and mahogany around the rim and forming long alcohol legs on the side of the glass.

Aroma

The wines from vintage 2017 in McLaren Vale have a lovely fragrant lift. This Shiraz has delicate strawberry and rose petals on the initial bouquet followed by mulberries, blackberries and the earthy characters of anise and licorice. New oak cooperage brings coconut and vanilla hints whilst a little extra breathing brings the more savoury elements of black olives and ground coffee.

Palate

The palate is solid and earthy with a hefty belt of ripe berries giving a smooth, mellow flavour supported by fine tannins. The middle shows some toasty oak, aniseed spice and black pepper. Mouthfeel is full and firm without being too aggressive. The finish is long and persistent with a nice dry edge.

Food Matching

A herb crusted rack of lamb char grilled on the barbeque is a great match with this wine. The toasty, spicy characters enhance the intensity and ready the palate for complex, generously flavoured dishes. Its firm dry finish makes it a great pairing with creamy soft cheese and dried muscatels after the meal.

Cellaring Potential

With the benefit of screw cap closure and a cool stable environment this wine will cellar for over 8 years. It will gain complexity over time and develop a mild crust. Breathing for 30 minutes or more before pouring is recommended and decanting is advised as the wine ages.
