Winemaking Notes

The fruit was harvested in the cool of night to obtain a variety of fruit flavours ranging from grassy to tropical. The juice was cool fermented in stainless steel with aromatic yeast strains. This wine was bottled early to retain fresh fruit characters.

Vintage Notes:

The vintage 2019 growing season was one of the driest on record. Controlled winter watering and careful monitoring of vine stress levels was key to a successful crop this year. Temperatures tended to be cooler in spring and early summer which caused a slower start to the season, as temperatures began to rise in late Jan early Feb ripening moved along a little quicker and the team were grateful the vines had sufficient canopies to protect the fruit through to maturity. The reds from this vintage show excellent depth of colour and fabulous tannins, whilst the whites display a rich array of aromatics and bright fresh fruit flavours.

Winery Profile

After nearly three decades of growing grapes for some of Australia’s best known wine brands, the Zilzie winery was built in 1999 with the first vintage released under the Zilzie name in 2000.

The increasingly popular and distinctive Selection 23 range was introduced in 2004, while 2008 saw the re-release of our Bulloak range.

2009 has seen the culmination of many years dedication to selective vineyard sourcing deliver the “REGIONAL COLLECTION” of Zilzie wines. We’ve combed Australia’s best known wine regions, specifically targeting the varieties they excel at, for exceptional grape parcels to produce these wines.

We’ve come a long way in 10 years, with our winery tripling in capacity, and our range growing from the humble beginnings of four varieties, to now include consumer favourites such as Pinot Grigio, Moscato and Rosé.

It’s not all about size, Zilzie is also recognised for its exceptional quality, having won 27 trophies in its short history and is the only winery from our region rated 4.5 stars by James Halliday in his 2009 Wine Companion.
