"The fruit is taken predominantly from our original Springflat vineyard at the winery. Only in exceptional years has select bunch picks been performed on one other of our vineyards at Mt Camel. Made in the same vein as the Cabernet Sauvignon reserve, a select bunch pick is done for the flawless bunches. This wine is then matured in new French oak barriques and hogsheads. An extensive individual barrel tasting is then performed to select the best barrels for final blending.No filtration. Closed under premium cork. Approximately 150 cases produced in exceptional years."

The 2006 Shiraz Reserve was aged in 100% new French oak for 24 months. The nose delivers wood smoke, meat, game, pencil lead, black cherry, blueberry, and licorice notes. Voluptuous and mouth-coating, it conceals enough structure for another 6-8 years of development in the cellar. This lengthy, impressive effort will offer peak drinking from 2014 to 2030.

David “Duck” Anderson continues to lead the way in Heathcote. All of his wines come from estate vineyards with yields of under 1.5 tons of fruit per acre.

Winery Profile

One of the Australian boutique producers to see extraordinary success in the US since the 1990s, Wild Duck Creek was first planted in Heathcote in 1979, along the banks of Wild Duck Creek. Vigneron and co-owner David 'Duck' Anderson is one of the genuine characters of Australian wine, and his wines have just as much personality. Production is in small quantities, and sold mostly via mail order and a single-digit list of Australian stockists.
