Sourced from low-yielding old vines up to 70 years of age, this wine represents a masterclass in regional blending, marrying the structural elegance of the Eden Valley with the rich fruit power of the Barossa Valley.

The unusually cool and wet 2022 growing season allowed the fruit to ripen slowly, yielding a highly aromatic, detailed, and beautifully poised expression with immense cellaring potential.

Colour: Vibrant maroon to deep crimson red with brilliant clarity in the glass.

Aroma: A complex and highly perfumed bouquet driven by ripe satsuma plum, wild blackberry, and black cherry fruits. It opens up with complex savoury layers of black olive tapenade, bay leaf, woodsy spice, and five-spice, complemented by a lifted woodsmoke character from French oak.

Palate: Full-bodied yet remarkably harmonious and seamless in its structure. The palate reveals a deep density of plum and cassis fruit balanced by a bright seam of natural acidity. It displays an alluring, velvety texture integrated with firm, powdered schisty tannins and subtle notes of dark chocolate and cedar that carry through to a long, mineral-edged finish.

Winery Profile

Henschke is one of the longest established family names in the Barossa and the Australian wine industry. Johann Christian Henschke first planted vines in Keyneton in 1861, producing his first commercial vintage in 1868.

The tradition of quality winemaking has passed down through the generations – today seeing Stephen Henschke and his wife, Prue, as winemaker and viticulturist respectively.

Awarded "International Red Winemaker of the Year" in 1996 at the London Wine Show, Stephen and Prue were in 2006, awarded Gourmet Traveller WINE magazine's "Winemaker of the Year" in recognition of winemaking excellence in both red and white wines. These Awards recognise the consistent and continuing success of this remarkable couple.

Prue has, for the last 18 years, explored and now employs both organic and biodynamic strategies to maximise the potential for the fruit from these unique vineyards to fully express their individual terroirs.

We take the time to individually inspect each bottle and photograph it so you know exactly what you are buying. All Private Cellar wine stored at GraysOnline is kept in a temperature controlled wine storage area. Any wine that doesn’t meet our quality standards will not be sold.
