WINEMAKING

The 2019 Clare Valley Vintage saw very dry conditions, accompanied with early spring frostscausing reduced yields. However, the low yielding vines produce grapes with intense colour andrich flavours. Small batch open ferments were undertaken to make this wine. Open fermentsalways produces the best flavours to wine. The intensity of flavour from this premium ClareValley fruit is evident from the first sip of this wonderful wine. Barrel maturation for 24 Monthsgives the softness of tannins and roundness of fruit characters with subtle oak from maturedFrench and American oak.

1838 was the year Walter Thomson, with wife Jane, arrived in Australia and established awinemaking tradition.Faithful to his approach, our estate grown parcels are carefully tended byour vignerons to create wines of great intensity.

Set in the northern range of the cool and picturesque Clare Valley, the high altitude providesfinesse and delicate power to our mature vines.

Winery Tasting Notes

COLOUR

Dark purple with red edges on the glass.

AROMA

Abundant dark fruits of blackberry, blueberry, cherry with violet aromas. The bouquet hascomplex cedar oak, baking spices and chocolate aromas that all intertwine to give rich experience.

PALATE

This full bodied red wine has full fruit intensity of blackberry, blueberry and raspberry. The midpalate is balanced with ripe medium tannins and cedar oak flavours from 24 months of oakmaturation. The soft acid is in balanced with the wine's plush palate creating a very flavoursomewine. Best paired with confit duck with steamed winter vegetables or a generous rump steak onthe barbeque with a roast vegetable stack

Winery Profile

Brand Profile Image

Experienced wine exporters, vignerons and domestic wine sellers. The Byrne difference is quality focused, innovative and estate grown wines from grape to glass.

Celebrating 60 years and 4 generations, the Byrne family range of wines express our dedication to sustainability and land regeneration practices, with our ethos to minimise harm and maximise benefits to the environment.

From the banks of the Murray River in which our vineyard grows, our prized estate wines reflect the love that goes into our land, delivering richness and complexity into each glass.

It all began almost half a century ago when the first vines were planted in a spot handpicked for its stony soils over the limestone base. Combine that with the warm embrace of a dry climate and generous sunshine, and you have the perfect recipe for grape varieties bursting with flavour and resilience.
