Vibrant purple-red.

An attractive regionally-defined nose of lifted choc-mint, rich blackcurrant, mulberry and panforte with hints of bramble, violets and fragrant cedary oak playing supporting roles.

Palate

Medium to full-bodied with rich varietal fruit flavours of blackberry, blackcurrant and mocha, marrying perfectly with fine-grained fruit tannins. Balanced acidity, gentle oak and regional notes of warm, dusty, clay earth complete and complex the palate, which finishes seamlessly with elegance, length and a lingering silky texture.

Enjoyable on release or will develop complex, integrated flavours with careful cellaring over eight to ten years.

Great with seared Wagyu burgers with wild rocket and Dijon mustard or slow roasted shoulder of lamb with fresh mint sauce and baby beetroot.

Winery Profile

Award Winning Winery

Wolf Blass Wines has grown from a humble tin shed to become one of the world's most successful and awarded wineries.

Wolf Blass was created in 1973 when Wolf started his own business, purchasing a 2.5 acre land holding with an old army shed outside Nuriootpa, at the northern end of the Barossa Valley.

In researching the name Bilyara, Wolf learned it was the Aboriginal name for "Eaglehawk" and given the eagle was also the national emblem of Germany, he decided his wines would carry the Eagle - a legacy that continues today and into the future.

Wolf Blass Wines won three consecutive Jimmy Watson Trophies with Black Label, generating substantial publicity and hype. In 1999, Wolf Blass Black Label made history, becoming the only wine to win the coveted Jimmy Watson Trophy an unprecedented four times.

From this time onwards, growth has been impressive and inspiring with Wolf Blass winning a grand total of more than 3,000 awards at national and international wine shows, including most recently, International Red Winemaker of the Year at the 2008 International Wine Challenge in London.

Wolf Blass Wines have a tradition of quality, character and consistency from the refined and elite Platinum Label, and the majestic and complex Black Label through to delicate Rieslings and crisp Chardonnays.

Winemakers

Wolf Blass winemakers are an award winning winemaking team, continuously striving for the ultimate in excellence, character and integrity. The Wolf Blass wine style has always been a unique and highly distinguishable one. Our winemaking teams strong focus on careful fruit sourcing, fermentation, maturation and blending results in lifted vibrant fruit flavours, a soft, rounded palate and well integrated tannins that are the hallmarks of the total Wolf Blass range.

Chief Winemaker Chris Hatcher is widely considered to be one of Australia's leading winemakers and respected wine show judges. A wonderful ambassador for the wines of Wolf Blass and Australia, Chris Hatcher's legacy to Australian winemaking is already monumental.

"The sum of all parts should still be a better result than the quality of each individual part, otherwise why blend at all" - Chris Hatcher Chief Winemaker.

95 Pts - Halliday Rating

Deep crimson; the wine spent 18 months in new and used French oak, and - if true to its maker - finished part of its fermentation in oak. It is splendidly complex, medium to full-bodied, its blackcurrant and mulberry fruit supported by earthy Coonawarra tannins. A serious wine.
