Thomson Estate W & J Cabernet Sauvignon 2023 (12x 750mL) Clare Valley

Description:

The 2023 vintage in Clare Valley was marked by a mild growing season with even ripening and cooler conditions during harvest. These ideal conditions allowed for extended flavour development and retention of natural acidity. The vineyard’s sandy loam over alluvial clay sedimentary rocks, underpinned by bedrock, enriched the vines with minerals, resulting in fruit of great purity and balance.

Winery Tasting Notes

Notes Image

COLOUR

Deep cherry red.

NOSE

Vibrant cassis and dark cherry aromas, lifted by cracked pepper, cherry stone and subtle floral notes.

PALATE

Medium-bodied with layers of dark plum, dark cherry and hints of dark chocolate. Savoury notes of bay leaf and cedar weave through the palate, supported by crisp, fresh acidity. Fine textural tannins and balanced oak integration create a smooth yet drying structure, leading to a savoury, lingering finish.

FOOD MATCH

Slow-cooked lamb shanks with red wine jus, or beef short ribs with fried potatoes.

Winery Profile

Brand Profile Image

Vegan friendly.

Experienced wine exporters, vignerons and domestic wine sellers. The Byrne difference is quality focused, innovative and estate grown wines from grape to glass.

Celebrating 60 years and 4 generations, the Byrne family range of wines express our dedication to sustainability and land regeneration practices, with our ethos to minimise harm and maximise benefits to the environment.

From the banks of the Murray River in which our vineyard grows, our prized estate wines reflect the love that goes into our land, delivering richness and complexity into each glass.

It all began almost half a century ago when the first vines were planted in a spot handpicked for its stony soils over the limestone base. Combine that with the warm embrace of a dry climate and generous sunshine, and you have the perfect recipe for grape varieties bursting with flavour and resilience.
