HEAD Heart & Home Shiraz 2021 (12x 750mL) SA

Description:

This very traditional Australian ‘Dry Red’ style has been part of my heartfor many years and literally reminds me of home when I get it in the glass.Bizarrely, it was a chance conversation about Shiraz & CabernetSauvignon with Phil Lehmann which led me down a path of blendingenlightenment. How do we make wine quality even better through the artof blending the two ‘hero’ varieties of the Barossa? Well, believe it or notthere is a trick and roughly you need to find the point at which they don’tfight each other! Lots of fine tuning involved.

Expert Reviews

It’s quite understandable that Alex Head became somewhat obsessed with the Shiraz-based wines of the northern Rhône. With a background in biochemistry and then working in wine retail, it was only a short step towards gaining work at producers such as Tyrrell’s, Torbreck and Cirillo Estate. In 2006 Alex began his own label, and the resulting wines have seen him gain much acclaim. -Brendan Black

Black fruit, some mint and spice, dark chocolate, almond. It’s nudging full-bodied, with richdarkand chocolaty flavours, some truffleandearthiness, quite a bit of chew to tannin, somedried herb and orange peel bitterness, and ahearty finish of good length. Plenty of flavourandsubstance, and very good value. -Gary Walsh

Winery Profile

Very much a rising star, Alex Head has taken the long path to wine-making, starting with a degree in Biochemistry at Sydney University, then stints in fine wine retail, wholesale importers and auction houses. He followed this with vintage at a handful of superb Australian wineries including Torbreck and Tyrrells, before heading out on his own, with his first releases in 2008.

Already rated a 5-star producer by James Halliday and named one of his Top Ten Best New Wineries for 2011, Alex's wines are inspired by the wines of France's Cote Rotie, in particular, and are produced in quantities of at most one or two barrels.
