Winery Tasting Notes

Notes Image

Colour

The appearance is deep crimson with hints of burgundy on the edges, giving a hint of its six years maturation. The long alcohol “legs” coating the side of the glass gives an indication of intensity and richness of flavour.

Aroma

The initial bouquet is distinctive Barossa with ripe berry fruit followed by seductive toasty oak and sweet vanilla spice. With time in glass, the more complex characters of freshly ground coffee and earthy herbs combine to deliver a sophisticated savoury element. There are added layers of spice and confection that entice the first taste.

Palate

The opening palate is a hit of toasty French Oak followed by dried muscatel and dark plums. The combination of sweet and peppery spice, hints of medicinal herbs and heady spirit richness fill out the middle palate to deliver mouth filling flavours and texture. The tannins are firm and tight with the oak influence giving a soft mellow feel. The overall palate is rich and powerful with a long, luscious finish. It’s a full bodied, robust wine with six years maturation before being late bottled in July 2025. The flavours are well integrated providing delicious drinking now.

Food Matching

The complexity of French oak influence makes this expression of Black Shiraz a perfect match for your favourite beef steak … rib eye fillet on the bone, sirloin or dry aged Angus. It can handle strongly flavoured sauces and char-grilled cooking. It has typical voluptuous Barossa character with a firm back bone, making it a delicious food wine for many occasions.
