Description:

The temperatures in the 2021 vintage were cooler during the growing season allowing for slow even ripening of grapes. Two weeks prior to harvest we reduced the water to encourage the grapes to partially dehydrate and concentrate flavours. The combination of our unique soils and summer weather that lasts until May enables us to produce this special wine. The result is a deeply coloured Shiraz bursting with fruit flavours and aromas.

Winery Tasting Notes

COLOUR

Dark Purple with red hue.

NOSE

Rich dark berry fruits with spicy notes of pepper and dried herbs.

PALATE

Full-bodied with rich fruit flavours of black cherry and Satsuma

plum. The mid palate shows spice, black pepper and toasty oak

flavours. It is balanced by the soft ripe tannins and natural acid

to provide a mouth-filling experience.

Winery Profile

1838 was the year Walter Thomson, with wife Jane, arrived in Australia and established a winemaking tradition. Faithful to his approach, our estate grown parcels are carefully tended by our vignerons to create wines of great intensity.

Named after a landmark building beside the majestic River Murray in South Australia, the Riverland region has the greatest days of sunshine and a pristine climate for premium grape growing on our limestone soils.
