Auckland I.A. & M. (Industrial, Agricultural & Mining) Exhibition, 1913-14, struck in gold (9ct, 14.7g, 29mm), by A.Kohn (Auckland), ring top suspension, reverse inscribed 'Ernest Drake/1st Prize/Vocal Solo/1914.'

Very fine and extremely rare in gold.

Lord Ranfurly, hand engraved stock medal, in silver (55x38mm), by C.W. (Charles Weedon, London)

Hallmark for London 1904, ring top suspension, obverse inscribed 'Ruatoki/March 16,

1904/Ranfurly/Governor/1897 to 1904', reverse inscribed 'Malcolm Ross/Hei/whakamaharatanga/ki te Hui nui/Na tetahi hoa/pono o te/Iwi Maori.' ('We have had a good meeting. Thank you from your friends, to a disciple of all things Maori.'). Edge bruise at 5:30 o'clock on reverse, toned, nearly extremely fine.

According to a letter sent by W.P.Reeves to Lord Ranfurly on 27 January 1905, thirteen similar medals were made, and presented to the following people: Hon James Carroll, Captain Gilbert Mair NZC, Dr Pomare, Te Maikowha, Tupaea, Te Amo, Tutakangahau, Te Tuhi Pihopa, Paora Kingi, Te Hurinui Apanui, Tana Rakuvaku [Rakuraku?], Te Whenuanui, and Numia Kereru. Curiously, Ross does not appear on this list, although a letter sent by him to Lord Ranfurly on 22 June 1905 makes mention of the tokens. Ross accompanied Lord Ranfurly on a number of diplomatic missions, documenting the events in writing and photographs. His account of the 1904 visit to Te Urewera, 'Through Tuhoe Land: Lord Ranfurly's Farewell to the Maori People', was published in Christchurch later that year. Malcolm Ross was a journalist and New Zealand's first official War Photographer in 1915. He accompanied Lord Ranfurly on many of his visits around the Colony and further afield.

no maker, pierced at top, overstruck on a British Queen Victoria young head half sovereign, the undertype visible on both sides, reverse inscribed with initials 'A.T.'

Slightly bent, otherwise extremely fine and extremely rare.

by A.T. (Anton Teutenberg, Auckland), ring removed from top. Extremely fine.

Visit of German Battleship S.M.S.Gazelle to New Zealand, 1875, struck in copper (28mm)

by A.Teutenberg (Anton Teutenberg, Auckland). Small edge nick on obverse, small carbon spot on reverse, otherwise good very fine and extremely rare.

1 x Auckland, presentation key, handcrafted in silver (95x29mm), unknown maker, hallmark for Birmingham 1925, pin-back suspension, obverse inscribed 'Presented to/the/Hon.J.A.Young/Minister/For Hospitals', reverse inscribed In Commemoration/of the opening of the/Wallace Wards/Auckland Hospital/25th July 1926'. Very fine.

1 x Christchurch, presentation key, handcrafted in silver (70x30mm), inscribed 'To the/Hon.J.A.Young/from Plunket Society/Chch Branch/opening of/Karitane Mothers Cottage/17.2.26'. Fine.

1 x New Hokianga Hospital, presentation key, handcrafted in steel (150x35mm), no maker, inscribed 'Hokianga Hospital' with a steel plaque inscribed 'Presented To The/Honourable J.A.Young M.P./Minister of Health/on the occasion of his opening of the/New Hokianga Hospital/Jan.1928'. Extremely fine, in a fitted wooden case.

1 x Waikato District Hospital, presentation key, handcrafted in silver gilt and enamel (140x45mm), reverse inscribed 'Presented To/The Hon.J.A.Young/Minister of Health/On His Opening The/New Nurses Home/at the/Waikato District Hospital/11-3-26'. Extremely fine, in fitted case of issue.

1 x King's College (Auckland), Sports Medal (Athletic), in bronze (48mm) by A.Teutenberg (Auckland), reverse inscribed 'Won/By/J.A.Young/880 Yds/Senior/Cup/1915' (D&C.M17). Extremely fine, in fitted case of issue.

New Zealand Centennial, Wellington, 1940, The New Zealand Institution of Engineers, incorporated 1914

struck in bronze (41mm), by M&K (Mayer & Kean, Wellington), uninscribed (S.558; M.-). Nearly uncirculated and extremely rare. $$ Unlisted in Morel. Sutherland states 'Sixteen of these medals were awarded to contributors of papers accepted for inclusion in Proceedings, vol. XXVI, 1939-40'.

Presbyterian Church (Otahuhu), presentation trowel, handcrafted in silver (250x78mm)

with native timber wooden handle, uncertain maker's mark, inscribed on top 'Presented/To/The Rt Hon.W.F.Massey/P.C./Prime Minister of N.Z./on the occasion of his laying/The Foundation Stone/of the/Otahuhu Presbyterian/Church/1914' 'Hugh C.Grierson/Architect'. Very fine and a very rare presentation piece to a Prime Minister. $$ From the N.Z. Herald, 15 June 1914. Courtesy National Library of New Zealand - Papers Past.

"A new Presbyterian Church is to be erected at Otahuhu, and the architect, Mr H.C.Grierson, is now, calling for tenders for the work of construction. The structure has been designed to seat about 200 people, and brick is the material to be used. The site is situated near Station Road. The exterior of the new church is to be finished with red and straw-coloured bricks, while the roof will be covered with red tiles. The design is in the Norman style of architecture. Provision is made for a room for the choir, and a vestry for the Minister."

William Ferguson Massey, known as 'Bill' or 'Farmer Bill' (26 March 1856-10 May 1925). He was the 19th and second longest serving Prime Minister of New Zealand, from 1912 to 1925, he was also founder of the Reform Party. He is widely considered to have been a very skilled politician of his time and was renowned for his support of rural New Zealand.

Online Auction Closing "Going, Going, Gone!"

Typically, auctions end at their posted closing time. There are some exceptions to this however, if there are any bids placed on a particular lot within 10 minutes of the auction closing time (the "Going, Going, Gone!" period). It will be extended until there are no more bids placed within ten minutes of the last successful bid.
There is no limit to the number of times an online auction can be extended. This makes Grays work more like a live auction where the bidding does not stop as long as there is still interest in the product, rather than assigning an arbitrary cut-off time. To ensure that you do not get outbid make sure you monitor the auction until you have won the item or enter an "AUTOBID" that you think will win!

Your goods will be delivered to your registered address.
