Wine Summary Image

Cabernet Sauvignon (75%) is one of the Clare Valley’s best varieties, and when it reaches its greatest potential, it rivals Riesling. Cabernet Franc (25%) is not as widely planted in the region, but blends extremely well with it’s relative, contributing an elegance and brightness to the wine.

2018 was an extremely good red vintage for Clare, slightly warmer than average, but vineyards by and large achieved a great balance of fruit and acid.

Aroma

Fragrant red and black currant fruit swirls around floral notes of crushed violets. Oak playing a supporting role providing hints of cedar and cigar box.

Palate

Medium bodied, displaying good concentration of fruit, subtle French oak, well balanced acidity and lovely, fine tannins. The length of flavour and overall elegance of the wine leaves a lasting impression.

Winery Profile

Pikes Vintners is an iconic family owned and operated winery set amongst the hills and valleys of South Australia's beautiful Clare Valley.

Established in 1984 the winery and vineyards are situated in the historic and picturesque Polish Hill River sub region on the eastern side of the Clare Valley. The climate in this area is cooler and the soils are quite different compared to the rest of the region, imparting distinctive flavours and aromas to the wines.

Pikes is best known for its world class Riesling, but is becoming increasingly recognized for high quality, elegant red wines and their ever popular Sauvignon Blanc Semillon blend. Pikes have also been a leader in planting new and alternative varieties to the district including Sangiovese, Pinot Grigio and Viognier. Pikes also produces Pikes Oakbank- a sparkling Pilsener style beer.

The distinctive English Pike fish appears on all Pikes products.
