Wine Summary Image

The fruit was hand-harvested in two parcels on the 21st of March and uponreaching the winery it was immediately destemmed, crushed and chilled to fermenters. After 4 days of cold soaking the juice was inoculated with our selectedyeast strains to begin fermentation in closed fermenters with heading down-boards. Rack and returns of the fermenting wine were performed daily,gently breaking the cap of skins,aiding in a gentle extraction of colour, flavour and tannins. For only the second time since the wines first release in 1998 two small half-tonne parcels were whole bunch fermented in the traditional pigeagemethod.Malolactic fermentation occurred and after two weeks on skins the wine was drained off, the skins pressed and the resultant wine gravity fed to barrel where itremained for nineteen months.

A deep and intense crimson purple.An elegant and vibrant bouquet with ripe red fruits with a hint of liquorice.A beautiful and elegant wine with an abundance of red berry fruits and layersof white pepper and spice. There are soft long lingering tannins with a hint ofchar on the finish.

Winemaker Andrew Hardy

Andrew began with Petaluma in 1982, working and studying his wayup through the ranks as cellar hand, trainee winemaker and finally leadwinemaker. Successfully interweaving practical, ‘in the vineyard’ workwith university studies, Andrew completed his Bachelor of Appl. Sci(Wine Science) at University of Adelaide in 1990. Nominated in August1999 as a finalist in AGT Wine Magazine's Winemaker of the Year award, Andrew is highly respected for his effortless winemaking style,restrained hand in the winery and engaging manner.
