Rating 92 Some great spice notes amongst the darker fruit characters in the perfume, though you’ll also likely find some briary, brambly characters too. Whiff of cedar also. Has light and fine yet firm tannin profile and a washy, pleasing, cool-fruited core. Spicy too. Finishes long, with some lipsmacking acidity and a touch more spice. Good wine this. Controlled. Aroma

This vintage has produced a Pinot Noir displaying opulent rich aromatics; lush dark fruits of the forest dominate the aroma and these are underpinned by sweet brown spice notes. The wine displays lovely elegance and flow with striking precision and clarity.

Palate

The palate kicks off with a plush dense fruit of the forest entry, this plushness then moves beautifully into the mid palate, after which fine elegant textural tannins frame fruit and acidity on a lengthy finish.

Cellaring Potential

Mt Difficulty Bannockburn Pinot Noir will improve for 7-10 years given optimal vintage and cellaring conditions.

Mt Difficulty is a boutique winery located in Bannockburn, Central Otago, New Zealand. The Bannockburn area is internationally recognised as one of the few places in the world where the pernickety Pinot Noir variety has found a home outside Burgundy.

The unique microclimate of the Bannockburn area provides hot summers, a large diurnal temperature variation and long cool autumns, which brings out the best of Pinot Noir grapes. This, along with a mix of clays and gravels ideal for viticulture, provides an excellent basis not only for Pinot Noir but also for Pinot Gris, Riesling, Sauvignon Blanc and Chardonnay.
