Wine Summary Image

This wine forms part of Seppelt’s prized Drumborg Vineyard Range, sourced from the mature, cool-climate Seppelt Drumborg Vineyard in South-West Victoria’s Henty Region. Planted in 1964 by Karl Seppelt and swept by icy Winds from the Southern Ocean, it is one of the Southern-most vineyards of mainland Australia.

Seppelt Drumborg Vineyard Pinot Noir is an expression of purity and balance. Select parcels of Pinot Noir are chosen for their intensity of flavor and structure. Traditional winemaking techniques are used, followed by maturation in a combination of French oak barriques and puncheons. The 2018 vintage of this wine is a fine, elegant expression of Pinot Noir with an intense perfumed nose and complex, layered palate.

Expert Reviews

James Halliday

96 Points

Hand-picked, 90% destemmed into small open fermenters, 10% whole bunches, the 7-10 day ferment finished in French barriques and puncheons (30% new), matured for 9 months. This is serious pinot noir, with satsuma plum and sour cherry flavours on the long, textured and very classy palate. Great now, better still 10-20 years hence.

Medium crimson. Intense strawberry black cherry sage chinotto aromas with vanilla, grilled nut complexity. Well concentrated strawberry black cherry fruits, fine looseknit chalky tannins, lovely Negroni-like viscosity, underlying vanilla oak notes and integrated long fresh acidity. Finishes with plentiful red fruits and a long lacy plume. An elegant style with attractive varietal definition, richness and buoyancy.

Tyson Stelzer

93 Points

To appreciate the distinction between pinot noir and meunier (pertinent in champagne!) line this wine up next to the Munier from the same vineyard. There is more tension of vibrant acidity here, more structure of finely coiled tannins, more fragrance of violets, deeper black fruits and ultimately more drive, persistence and endurance. A great vintage for Drumborg.
