Invented by the Dutch company DSM in 1987, braid fishing line is made from woven strands of extruded polyethylene (PE.) In the USA it is branded as Spectra, while in Europe it’s called Dyneema.
Key features including:
- Braid has many advantages over nylon monofilament line,
- Higher resistance to abrasion;
- Almost zero stretch, making bites much more detectable;
- Thinner diameter, meaning it’s less affected by currents and ideal for deep fishing;
- Not as easily damaged by sunlight;
- No line ‘memory’, so it doesn’t form loops and coils on a reel, when not in use;
- It floats, which helps to avoid snagging;
- Unlike nylon, it doesn’t absorb water;
The line can be coloured (‘colour change braid’) every ten metres with dye, meaning you always know how much line you have out, when bottom fishing or trolling.
All braid orders are shipped with a free detachable line counter included. It clips onto your rod and measures line wound on to your reel. So you know exactly how much line you’ve used, and how much is left to spool up another of your reels, or a friend’s reel. That saves you money. (Note: One free line counter per total order.)
All batches of braid line are checked to assure correct breaking strain, prior to shipping.
