Winery Tasting Notes

This Pinot noir was fermented in small 1 tonne batches with twice daily plunging of the ”cap” formed by the gape skins. Maturation for 10 months in new and second fill French oak on yeast lees has introduced a creamy mid palate texture. In an effort to preserve the subtle complexities, this Pinot has been bottled unfined and unfiltered. A clear crimson with youthful purple hues. Bright red fruits combine with hints of darker plums and cherry with an earthy, gamey mid palate with hints of mushroom and a spicy finish of soft tannins. A vibrant lifted nose of black cherry and strawberry complemented by spicy vanillin French oak. This wine will improve with up to 10 years careful cellaring.

Has an immediate appeal, primary fruit, of cherry and strawberry (in fact it immediately had me recalling something like a Cherry Danish). Yet, for that primary fruit, lurking furtively are more savoury elements, dried leaf matter something piney, nigh evergreen forest resinous. Generous acidic presence, gives cut and thrust across the palate. Semblance of fruit, again with savoury nuances. It's not necessarily speaking of anything in particular. It has presence, volume and definite persistence of flavour. A wine of presence, place, personality.
