Wine Summary Image

Located to the west of the Mouton and Lafite vineyards, Duhart-Milon lies on gravelly soil with a height difference of more than ten metres. The purchase of the property by the (Lafite) Rothschild family in 1962, brought an end to a rapid succession of owners (five in 25 years) that had left the vineyard in an pitiful state. With the arrival of the Lafite Rothschild teams to care for the vines and supervise the vinification, the wines' consistency steadily increased. By 1978 the quality had markedly improved and the wine has been of a very high standard since 1982.

Grays Tasting Panel Review

Duhart-Milon is a classic Pauillac. It perfectly combines concentration and elegance. The palate is straight with spice notes. You can really feel the “Lafite” touch. These wines are worth keeping for several years in order to experience their full aromatic power.

Brand Profile Image

Pauillac A.C., 4ème Cru Classé

THE VINEYARD OF CHATEAU DUHART MILON covers a nearly unified area on the western side of Château Lafite Rothschild, on the Milon hillside, which protects the Carruades plateau. The estate is made up of 152 hectares, including 76 hectares of vineyards. The soils are fine gravel mixed with aeolian sands on tertiary limestone bedrock.

THE 76 HECTARES OF VINES CONSIST OF Cabernet Sauvignon (67%) and Merlot (33%). The average age of the vines is 30 years.

THE PROPERTY HAS BEEN MANAGED SINCE 1962 BY a single team that, due to the proximity of the two properties, oversees both Château Lafite Rothschild and Château Duhart-Milon. Charles Chevallier, Director of the Domaines, is assisted by oenologist and winemaker Christophe Congé, and vineyard manager Regis Porfilet.BOTH CHÂTEAUX USE THE SAME TECHNIQUES based on strict mastery of yields, harvesting by hand, and undertaking many manual projects throughout the year.

Second Wine: Moulin de Duhart

Best Years: 2010, 09, 08, 07, 06, 05, 04, 03, 02, 01, 00.
