Dry Italian rose wines are hard to find in Australia but they have a lot to offer: distinctive flavours and aromas from local grape varieties, as well as a truly food friendly, dry and savoury style. The Lagrein variety is a red grape variety indigenous to the valleys of Trentino. The wines tend to have intense berry-fruit flavours and a slight taste of iodine or saltiness. The Castel Firmian label represents the most refined wines of Mezzacorona’s diverse offering. Their Lagrein grapes grow mostly in and around the old riverbeds of Piana Rotaliana within the Trentino DOC.

Winery Tasting Notes
This wine receives very light maceration on the skins, followed by cool fermentation at around 18°C. It is bottled early to capture the style’s desired freshness. Showing a brilliant rose color it opens with aromas of fresh cherries, sour black cherries and raspberry, with fruitier notes of berries and red plums. On the palate the wine feels light, dry and fresh, with delicate citrus flavours.
