John Duval is one of the world's best known winemakers, coming from a family that boasts four generations of South Australian vignerons. He has been saluted many times on the world stage, notably International Winemaker of the Year in 1989 and twice Red Winemaker of the Year in 1991 and 2000. After 28 years with Penfolds, including 16 years as Chief Winemaker, John has created these stunning wines under the John Duval label, which has now welcomed second generation Tim on board. Utilising old vine Barossa fruit, the wines express the terroir of the Barossa and the hand-crafted attention of John Duval.

Deep crimson. Mucky plum, blackberry, pastille aromas and flavours with roasted walnut, aniseed notes. Medium - powered and pure fruited on the palate with lacy fine tannins and attractive maturation complexity. Finishes chalky firm with lovely dark berry pastille fruits. Beautiful wine.

Deep dark fruits of blackberry, black cherry and blue fruits. Layered blackberry and blue fruits with hints of iodine, sage and lavender. Well integrated tannins and a fine and bright finish.

“The John Duval wines really are modern classics. It’s got tension and precision written all over it. Heavily perfumed in forest berries, dark chocolate, alpine herbs and new leather/mahogany Chesterfield chair kinda thing. It’s succulent in texture, fine and firm in the palate and stretches luxuriously long. All of that perfume translates to flavours, a bit of extra cedar oak seasoning and a touch of sweet-earthiness too. It’s beautifully balanced and all up classy.”
