At the end of our old-vine garden path there is a Fairytale come true, our 90 year old bush vine Grenache garden at Gomersal in Nuriootpa.

After hand picking in the last week of March our winemaker Elena Brooks let the free run basket pressed juice ferment with natural indigenous yeasts in old French Oak barriques. The wine sat on yeast lees for twenty weeks before bottling without secondary fermentation, fining or filtration to capture the essence of our Fairytale.

This vintage of our Fairytale of the Barossa Rosé has a high level of natural acidity, (7.2 grams per litre) a pH of 3.08 and less than 3.2 g/L of residual sugar with an alcohol of just 13.5%. It is truly a wine of its time and place. A wish come true.

Winery Tasting Notes

Colour

Pale and translucent pink mixed with tinctures of copper and bronze.

Nose

Rose water and Turkish Delight, red jubes and fresh Summer berries - all indicative of pristine, old-vine grenache fruit. The beguiling aromatics hide traces of mineral salts and spring water, marble benches and slate.

Palate

Racy, racing acidity darts through this pink wine’s palate, laser-like. The wake is both clean and textural, with

cranberry, pomegranate, and blood orange flavours pin-balling all about. The after palate is a wilderness of savoury fruit flavours dotted with wild strawberries, just ripe. A dry and satisfying finish.

Drink

The moment the outside temperature rises above 75F (known as “24” in the experimental Centigrade scale…) serve this pink wine with anything, anyone, and anywhere. Well chilled is useful, so that it might unrushingly unfurl in the glass. We have no hard science, but an ice bucket seems to make this wine taste even better.
