From Sicily, specifically Acate in the Ragusa province, we have a wine made from the Inzolia grape, not one familiar to most of us. Harvesting is at night, after which there is a cool and controlled fermentation, followed by a brief maturation. The aim is to retain the freshness and the fragrance, while enhancing its minerality. Gleaming gold hue, there are floral notes here, with spices, mandarins, cumquats, white peaches and a gentle note of almond bitterness on the finish. Clean, fresh and tight, the wine is of mid-length. Lovely now, it should hold for the next three to four years.

Colour: Bright straw yellow.

Nose: Particularly fruity notes of pear, apricot, white and yellow peaches.

Palate:Fragrant white florals with crisp green apple notes, and pleasant minerality on the finish. Delicious with light mediterranean style dishes, pasta with herbs, seasoned or grilled seafood, tapas, risottos,savoury aperitivi.

Sicilian Inzolia. Simple, varietal, but enjoyable salty crunchy white. It smells and tastes of oreserved lemon, sea spray and just ripe pear. The tart palate has a nice tang to it as well – all present and correct. A good example of a fresh crunchy local white that would smashable to the max on a Sicilian beach (Sicily has great beaches, FWIW). Best drinking: now. 17/20, 90/100. 13% alc., RRP $20. Also imported by Single Vineyard Sellers. Would I buy it? Share a bottle from the ice bucket.
