Winery Tasting Notes

The Name:

“Sourced from our company owned vineyards, “G” is for Graymoor in the Coonawarra and “W” for Wickham Park in McLaren Vale. The individual growing conditions of each site affords us the unique opportunity of being able to blend wines of what each region has to offer.” – Geoff Merrill

Winemaking Notes:

The colour is a very deep dark red. The aroma is characterised by ripe, concentrated berries, spice and herbs. Olive, plum, currant, menthol and chocolate just for starters. Then earth, sage and a little vanilla bean pokes out between the toasty oak.

Not your typical Cabernet, this is a ripe, inky, muscular specimen that eats rump steak for breakfast. The palate has great length and acidity with firm, grippy tannins and ample fruit weight bringing it all together.

Having gained a reputation as a maker of innovative and elegant wines Geoff established his own business in 1980 and quickly achieved significant success in both Australian and International wine shows.

As a leading personality in the emerging Australian wine industry, Geoff also established a high profile internationally, most recently as consulting winemaker in Italy making wines for the UK market and as a respected judge at Australian and International wine shows.

Geoff Merrill's wines have been successful at Australian and International wine shows, including the coveted Jimmy Watson Trophy at the 2005 Melbourne wine show. Since 1980 Geoff Merrill Wines have won 29 Trophies, 143 Gold , 373 Silver and 1181 Bronze medals.
