Winery Tasting Notes

The colour is a dense, dark brick red with garnet hues. The aroma is a postcard from McLaren Vale Shiraz. Attractive and ambrosial, this wine is simply begging to be tasted. It is filled with complex secondary notes of earth, savoury meats and game, clove, herbs and ripe primary redcurrant and blackberry. The palate is very well structured with defined, grippy, firm yet fine tannins. It is tensioned together by perfectly balanced acidity forming a youthful, well proportioned wine destined for a long evolution.

Having gained a reputation as a maker of innovative and elegant wines Geoff established his own business in 1980 and quickly achieved significant success in both Australian and International wine shows.

As a leading personality in the emerging Australian wine industry, Geoff also established a high profile internationally, most recently as consulting winemaker in Italy making wines for the UK market and as a respected judge at Australian and International wine shows.

Geoff Merrill's wines have been successful at Australian and International wine shows, including the coveted Jimmy Watson Trophy at the 2005 Melbourne wine show. Since 1980 Geoff Merrill Wines have won 29 Trophies, 143 Gold , 373 Silver and 1181 Bronze medals.
