From Lou Primavera's '01-planted vineyard at 300m on red volcanic soils in Woori Yallock. 35% whole bunches. A bright crimson red. This always highly seductive and perfumed wine has aromas of raspberries, orange peel and cranberries as well as a little musk stick and rose bush. There's a gentle succulence on the palate that's nicely balanced by the wine's supple tannins and fine-boned acidity. Full, bright, youthful red-purple colour; plummy and slightly meaty, vanillan aromas, the palate full and firm with tightly bundled flavour and tannin, slightly locked up at present and seems to need more time. Winery Tasting Notes

Colour: Bright crimson red.

Aroma: Impossibly seductive and highly aromatic. It opens with lifted notes of fresh raspberries, cranberries, and orange peel, interwoven with rose bush florals, gentle musk, oolong tea, and subtle spice.

Palate: Fine, seamless, and soft. It delivers a gentle, placid succulence weighted with bright red fruits—like pomegranate and crunchy cherries—and complex hints of dried herbs and porcini mushroom.

Finish: Long and beautifully balanced, framed by incredibly supple, silky tannins and a fine line of refreshing acidity.

Winery Profile

Yarra Valley based vignerons, the Sexton family live in the middle of their 80 acre vineyard established on the high north face of the Warramate Ranges in the dress circle of the Yarra Valley, one hour east of Melbourne.

At Giant Steps, they explore site, micro climatic and clonal differences between several specialised vineyards in the Yarra Valley including their own multiclonal vineyard and the highly regarded Tarraford vineyard.

Focused intently upon reflecting the individual and unique characteristics of each single vineyard, Giant Steps adopts a minimalist approach to winemaking including, whenever possible, vinification using indigenous yeasts and gravity flow transfers.

When in the Yarra Valley you must stop by the winery/cellar door situated in the main street of Healesville, which offers wood fired pizzas, in-house roasted coffee, cheese, beer on tap, and of course wine.
