Aromatic and spicy, charred red capsicum and red fruit, subtle biscuity oak. Bright, energetic, fine emery tannin, a slight smokiness to taste, fresh raspberries, soft but sure grip on a long finish. Light, but with a fair bit of concentration and extract. Easy to enjoy.

Winery Tasting Notes

2021 was a particularly challenging vintage across much of Australia, but we were very lucky here in the Yarra Valley. It was a bit of a rollercoaster - with a cool, wet Spring, a dry December and then a mild February, punctuated by a few significant rain events...

This all led to lower than average yields across our Pinot Noir blocks, primarily driven by tighter, smaller bunches – the consequence of which is naturally high acidity, great flavour and vibrant colours. Overall, tiny crops but amazing quality.

Serve with hand made pappardelle and shredded Confit duck leg and rocket. Baked field mushrooms stuffed with black olive risotto. Summer Alpine Comte cheese. Char grilled eggplant, red capsicum and fried halloumi with salsa verde.

Winery Profile

Yarra Valley based vignerons, the Sexton family live in the middle of their 80 acre vineyard established on the high north face of the Warramate Ranges in the dress circle of the Yarra Valley, one hour east of Melbourne.

At Giant Steps, they explore site, micro climatic and clonal differences between several specialised vineyards in the Yarra Valley including their own multiclonal vineyard and the highly regarded Tarraford vineyard.

Focused intently upon reflecting the individual and unique characteristics of each single vineyard, Giant Steps adopts a minimalist approach to winemaking including, whenever possible, vinification using indigenous yeasts and gravity flow transfers.

When in the Yarra Valley you must stop by the winery/cellar door situated in the main street of Healesville, which offers wood fired pizzas, in-house roasted coffee, cheese, beer on tap, and of course wine.
