Not always the biggest fan of this wine but James Kellie has hit the mark in 2018. It is a clasic cooler climate Shiraz - complex and subtle with white pepper, salami, violets and redcurrant fruit. Only midweight but packs a real punch with great fruit concentration in a juicy, savoury style. It is balanced, elegant, complex and long - loved it.

Winery Tasting Notes

The wine has a dense crimson colour with youthful purple hues on release. Rich aromas of plum jam, mocha and black pepper with spicy, toast French oak are evident on the nose. Initial flavours of black cherry and mulberry lead to a rich mid palate of licorice and dark chocolate, finishing with long fine tannins, and the toasty spice and vanilla of premium French oak barriques.

Lots of flavour, as usual. The estate range for Harewood inevitably delivers bargains, just like this. Black fruited, inky and just a little warm – it’s a big fruit bomb. More depth than some vintages too. Even some leathery spice, which is welcome for a wine that can look un-regional.

The nose has distinct notes of clove and cardamon that are backed by plum and black cherry. The palate starts supple with dark fruits enjoying a savoury edge before firmer lines of acidity give a leanness to the mid palate that accentuates the wines more earthen characteristics. Fruit tends to blackberry to finish with some cooking cocoa and a dusting of spice rounding out the wine.
