Wine Summary Image

The 2005 vintage was considered to be an outstanding year in the Clare Valley. The season produced near

perfect growing conditions. Spring was warm, but the maximum temperatures over January and February

were slightly cooler than usual and there were useful falls of rain that kept vines looking healthy. Given the extremely high quality of fruit produced from the 2005 vintage, this release of The Armagh will be highly sought after.

Winery Tasting Notes

The 2005 Armagh is inky and impenetrable.

Aroma

It displays elegant, yet brooding aromas, which are highly complex - including boysenberry, plums, bluberries, rose, lavender and spice.

Palate

The palate shows power, coupled with finesse. A Pandora's box of fruit flavours, including loganberry, blackberry, plum and mulberry.

The oak is intergrated almost to the point of being undetectable and the tannin structure makes it approachable now, but will allow for long term ageing - easily 15-20 years.

We suggest that the wine is allowed to 'breathe' a minimum of two hours before being consumed to fully appreciate the distinctive flavours and aromas.

The late Jim Barry was a pioneer of the Australian wine industry. He was the first qualified winemaker to work in the Clare Valley of South Australia and with his wife, Nancy, built a successful wine business which has produced trophy-winning wines since its establishment in 1959. Today, the company is headed by Jim’s second son Peter, who took over from his father as Managing Director.

Jim Barry Wines has an innovative approach to viticulture and a strong commitment to technological excellence in winemaking. This philosophy is fundamental to the company's ability to consistently produce wines of the highest quality which have won international recognition.
