In 1550, a Dutch merchant named Bonaventure Godet arrives in the city of Cognac with the sole intention of exporting alcohol and salt from France to his homeland. He settled in La Rochelle and began active work, so successfully that Henry IV granted his family a special privilege - to wear a sword. Inspired by such a beginning, the sons, and then the grandchildren and great-grandchildren of Bonaventure Gode, decided to continue his work. So in 1730, Augustin Godet was already a supplier to the English court, his son Gideon moved to England for a while to expand his business, but then returned to La Rochelle. In 1782, he founded the Godet cognac company, whose history exemplifies that of French cognac. 1838 was a landmark year in the history of Godet cognac - Gideon Godet the Younger discovered new facets of cognac flavors. Once in Portugal, he found huge 600-liter barrels, moved them to La Rochelle and decided to age his spirit from the Grande Champagne region in them. Month after month, he checked their contents and only after 8 years decided that all the aromatic components were finally balanced. Cognac, which he called Gastronome, was a great success. Today, the legendary company is run by Jean-Jacques Godet. He represents the eighth generation of the family that runs the Godet cognac house. They changed the look of a relatively conservative cognac to a more dynamic one. The cognac house Godet is famous not only for its exclusive cognacs, but also for the cognacs of the Lautrec series.
