LOCK & KEY CHARDONNAY; delivering exceptional value for money.

The Lock & Key Chardonnay is made from fruit grown at our mature, vineyard in Tumbarumba, Southern NSW. Planted in 1993, the vineyard comes highly regarded, largely due to the vast array of medal winning wines it has produced over the years.

On mainland Australia there are few places that can consistently grow pure, expressive Chardonnay. Due to the ultra-cool climate and high altitude vineyards in the Tumbarumba region, we are one of the few places that can.

Winery Tasting Notes

Colour: Brilliant clean pale yellow

Nose: Bright and lifted with citrus, melon, fig and nutty complexity Palate: The palate is long and elegant with cool climate zesty varietal flavours knitting in neatly with subtle toasty French oak. Zesty lemon and citrus with cashew undertones. A lovely delicate weight with good length.

Comments: The cool Tumbarumba region is rapidly emerging as a leading source of Australia’s top chardonnays. This fruit is from the established ‘Tralee’ vineyard which is high altitude and renowned for producing outstanding quality Chardonnay. This wine is no exception and delivers exceptional value at this price point.

Hilltops is rapidly emerging as one of the most exciting viticultural regions in Australia. Australia’s most influential wine commentator James Halliday has hailed the Hilltops as one of the two most significant emerging cool climate wine regions in Australia. Viticulturally, the region can be summarised as "Barossa meets the Grampians"; power and concentration with elegance and finesse.

Moppity Vineyards s is a flagship producer of the Hilltops region and recently rocketed to prominence having claimed some of the most coveted prizes in winemaking, both in Australia and overseas.

The 170 acre vineyard sits at the highest elevation in the Hilltops and the 37 year old vines are among the oldest in the region. Moppity vineyards won over 90 trophies and medals since 2009 and produced fruit for the ’09 Jimmy Watson winner. No wonder Campbell Mattinson has heralded Moppity as “a rising star of top-end Australian wine”.
