Wine Summary Image

The quality of the fruit lent itself to extended skin contact for optimum extraction of colour, so after crushing the fruit was fermented on skins in temperature-controlled stainless steel for between ten and twelve days. The depth of fruit flavour and bold tannin structure achieved meant that from the beginning this wine was built to last. Fermentation was completed in an assortment of oak and stainless steel, with oak staves, hogshead and barriques used. Individual parcels of wine remained in wood.

Vintage Conditions

Overall, the vintage was a dry season across the majority of regions we took fruit from. These dry conditions, coupled with warm weather and variable yield levels forced the growers to manage their blocks carefully, especially with regards to soil moisture and irrigation. Throughout the growing season, we saw a lot of movement in regards to ripening patterns and varying maturity levels across all varieties, with many of the red varieties all coming together at once, and almost everything on average ripening about 2 weeks earlier than in the previous season.

The wine shows a deep purple in colour.

Nose

The nose offers a varietal expression with plum and black olive and a hint of herbaceousness.

From the very start, Salena Estate’s objective was always to become recognised as a maker of world-class wines that represent great value in any market that they are presented. Salena Estate firmly believe in the old winemaker’s maxim that ‘the making of good wine starts in the vineyard’. To achieve consistently high quality fruit, the latest pruning, canopy management and other vineyard practises are undertaken to ensure the best possible varietal expression in the harvest. Vineyard plantings are of fairly significant size, at 208 hectares (520 acres). Varieties grown include Shiraz, Cabernet Sauvignon, Petit Verdot, Merlot, Chardonnay, Colombard, Semillon and Riesling.Salena Estate is also certified as an organic processor, enabling to satisfy demand in an exciting new segment of the wine market.“Salena Estate – A family ownded company making premium wines that redefine the standards for quality and value”
