100 Best Australian Wines 2023/24

Over the last twenty years, plenty of wines have slipped in under the ten-pound barrier, but very few have hit seven quid. While inexpensive brands have all but disappeared, Oxford Landing has made finer and finer wines every year and this brand Chardonnay new vintage stands a chance of being the finest value Chardonnay on the planet this year. I know we are only nine months through as I launch this list, but nothing has come close so far! Pristine, perfumed, accurate and dry, this wine retails at a lower price than most restaurants’ house wines cost ex VAT, and I would prefer a glass of this than any house white I have seen this year!

Winery Tasting Notes

Pale straw yellow in colour. Ripe nectarine, fig and nougat aromas with accents of wild honey. These are supported by freshly cut hay and cinnamon spice. Layers of flavour build across the palate reflecting the fruit, natural fermentation and ageing on yeast lees. The slightest hint of oak comes through as cinnamon and spice. Balanced acidity gives the wine a refreshing finish.

Oxford Landing Estates was established in 1958 on the banks of the mighty Murray River in South Australia amidst bountiful sunshine, vivid blue skies and plenty of red Riverland soil.

From planting vines to making wines, Oxford Landing Estates takes great pride in their people – some having spent their whole life on the Murray. They are part of a community who are unashamedly passionate about the vineyards, grapes and working together to ensure the wine going into the bottle is what they envisaged.

“Our group of dedicated vineyard staff live on-site and nearby. It’s their care and attention to detail that sets the basis for Oxford Landing Estates wine quality,” says Vineyard Manager Robert ‘Fred’ Strachan.
