Expert Reviews

Long lunches and sunsets scream for this

93 Points

This is the DJ pumping the beats and you are the dancer busting the moves. Such a vibrant and energetic wine, juicy fruit bursts from the glass and textural feels seduce. Mellencamp style, this is a Cherry Bomb. With 15% whole bunches, red cherries and blue fruits are etched with fine spices that run on long. Long lunches and sunsets scream for this. Rush to the front of the queue.

Winery Profile

Running With Bulls Tempranillo and Vermentino are leading the rush of Mediterranean varietals that make exciting wine in South Australia’s soil and climate.

Known to thrive in a range of conditions around the world; Tempranillo has an affinity with the Barossa region, where an ideal climate helps to showcase the stylish fruit flavours of this emerging variety.

In 1999, after several study visits to Spain, Tempranillo was grafted onto old Barossa rootstock. That experimental fruit whet the appetite and led to further plantings.

Encouraged with the success of Tempranillo in the Barossa, we planted Tempranillo in our Wrattonbully vineyards in 2002. The vineyard site was chosen for its soil types (principally shallow red soils over limestone), undulating aspect and reliable climate.

Vermentino’s willingness to thrive in the conditions of Langhorne Creek, Adelaide Hills and the Barossa Valley and its terrific approachability make it a welcome addition to the group.

The grapes are grown with an emphasis on vineyard sustainability; due to vineyard conditions little intervention is needed. This results in a healthy and diverse population of natural microflora that piggybacks on the grapes into the winery and begins the natural fermentation.

The results are the Australian interpretation of the native styles of the Mediterranean, expressing individual regional characters.

"This is so bright and fresh"

92 Points

This is so bright and fresh with aromas of sweet spices and raspberries, some whole-bunchy kick, as well as white pepper and orange peel. The palate has a vivid, crunchy texture and tangy, rich raspberry flavors. Blueberries and boysenberries to close. Drink now. Screw cap. Nick Stock, James Suckling.com, 6 October 2021
