Hand-picked, the vines planted '00, bunch and berry-sorted by machine, open-fermented, 4 days cold soak, 11-day ferment, matured for 21 months in French oak (30% new). A very rich and generous shiraz showing what can be achieved with relatively young vines, French oak playing an important role.

Winery Tasting Notes

This wine has relaxed and opened up after some bottle age to provide a real sense of invitation on the nose to draw the drinker in. Classic Shiraz aromas of black fruits, dark chocolate and fresh vanilla bean appear early before a brief, subtle glimpse of vegemite spice adds some layers and interest. On the palate there is a sense of control and balance to the mouth-feel where fullness is provided by some dark primary plum and blackberry fruit. A fresh acid line ensures a present, but fine tannin structure which corsets the wine just enough to keep it focused.

The Schild name has a long history in the Barossa, dating back to 1952 when BenSchild purchased the Three Springs Farm property in Rowland Flat and settled withhis family. Today, second and third generation vigneron’s work side by side tosolidify Schild Estate’s reputation, built on its commitment to translating theunique tapestry of its vineyards into wines that speak of honesty and drinkability.
