Well known as the peatiest whisky in the Ardbeg stable, the 2019 Supernova took many by surprise given that the fourth and most recent in 2015 was declared the final bottling. The 2019 edition was matured in ex-Bourbon casks. It's described as having aromas of "pungent aniseed, menthol and eucalyptus’, with a ‘nebula of bonfires, soot, charred oak, birch tar and menthol’ on the palate." 53.8% alc.
With Ardbeg Supernova every sip is a journey, from the nose to the lips to the back of the throat the flavor changes. The flavors smolder in your mouth and are very long lasting. The aftertaste shines with a eucalypts afterglow. I’m not a big scotch fan but this one is very drinkable to me for an Islay. A small sip gives a strong flavor. If you are a scotch fan and you’ve never had this one, it’s a must for sure. - The Whiskey Wash
