Wine Summary Image

Each Clone were harvested separately and fermented separately. All fermentation was carried out in 40% New and 60% second year French Oak barriques of which 50% was wild and 50% was inoculated. Each barrel was lees-stirred twice a week until the desired texture and complexity was achieved and then left to further mature until blending. The final blend was then fined with isinglass and stabilised and filtered before bottling.

Expert Reviews

95 pts - Angus Hughson (Winepilot)

In the search for seriously cool climate chardonnay, Western Australia’s Great Southern is one of the most underrated wine regions in the country. And wines like this show why with its steely acid backbone and quite serious complexity. Pale in colour, the wine opens with understated aromas of melon and florals well supported by malty French oak and nougat complexity. The palate is more savoury, with citrus and crushed nut flavours again over a bed of French oak. Bright acidity also gives impact and helps to drive a fine and very long finish. It’s a very impressive example of Great Southern Chardonnay.

Winery Tasting Notes

Zesty lemon and lime curd flavours balanced by a lengthy mineral acidity giving a lengthy and elegant finish.

This Chardonnay is a blend of three different Chardonnay clones; 60% Gingin, 20% Clone 1, 20% Clone 95. Each Clone has a distinctive contribution to the final wine; Gingin gives palate weight and stone fruit characters, Clone 1 gives fresh acidity and minerality and whilst Clone 95 provides texture and citrus flavours.

A light yellow with a fleck of green in the glass, the nose shows a wine that is expansive, worked and worthy of its price-point. Layers of fig and white peach are wrapped in spiced oak. There is a burnt butter like complexity on the palate that is in part time on lees, the other the influence of quality oak. What is most enjoyable is the nectarine and fig that hold their own, amply supported by a mineral line of citrus acidity that balances out the wines bolder characters. A rich, decadent chardonnay but delivered in a precise and age worthy package
