Our Hanna’s Hill Cabernet Malbec showcases the intense Frankland River Cabernet and Malbec in partnership. After harvest, the parcels of Frankland River Cabernet and Malbec were co-fermented to ensure seamless integration of the two varieties from the beginning. Careful monitoring during fermentation with frequent pump-overs ensured maximum colour & flavour extraction from the skins. After pressing out, the wine was put to barrel in a mixture of new and older French oak for 10 months maturation before blending and bottling.

Winery Tasting Notes

COLOUR: Brilliantly inky & dense crimson with a purple red hue.

AROMA: Powerful aromas of dark berry fruits and plum, with complexing dry savoury spice and lifted violets.

PALATE: A well balanced and full flavoured wine with great length and persistence of flavour.

Showcasing rich, dark berry fruit flavours whilst being balanced by the drying tannins and wellintegrated oak. The depth of fruit and spicy finish of this wine allows it to be enjoyed young, yet will also reward with a few years in the cellar.

CELLAR POTENTIAL: Beautiful drinking now and over the next 6 years or so.

Winery Profile

Located in the Great Southern region of Western Australia, West Cape Howe is the most southerly point, rising some 250 metres above the Southern Ocean. It is thought that the first explorers to this coastline were Dutch seafarers in 1627 aboard their 'Fluyt' class vessel "Gulden Zeepaard" (Golden Seahorse).

The winery is named after this magnificent landmark to pay respect not only to the natural beauty of the region, but also in recognition of the extreme influence of the Southern Ocean on the area's viticulture. The rugged coastline is home to some stunning white beaches, sheltered coves and great rock climbing sites.

West Cape Howe Wines is owned by a partnership including Gavin Berry (until 2004, senior winemaker at Plantaganet), and viticulturist, Rob Quenby. It was founded in 1997 and soon became one of the fastest growing wine brands in Western Australia, now producing around 60,000 cases annually. Over time, it has acquired some of the oldest vineyard resources in the state, giving it unrivalled access to the best and most consistent quality fruit that the cool Great Southern wine region has to offer.
