From six estate blocks, 50% on sand, 50% ironstone. Destemmed and mechanically sorted whole berries and 20% whole bunches open-fermented with a splash of viognier, 10 months in French oak (20% new). Dark fruits with earth, chocolate and licorice nuances. Sensational price.

Winery Tasting Notes

This superb shiraz has a rich core of dark fruits, blueberries, chicory, juniper and dark chocolate. It’s big, voluptuous and brilliantly balanced with great fruit sweetness, grippy finely grained tannins and fresh acidity. Perfect drinking now but will cellar for another 6-8 years if preferred. If you like big, rich McLaren Vale reds, this one’s for you. Pair it with steak and kidney pie for a great night in.

Winery Profile

Brand Profile Image

The Yangarra philosophy centres around producing wines solely from our single-vineyard estate, where our bush-vine Grenache is the keystone variety.

With our feet firm in history, and our eyes on the horizon, Yangarra Estate now exists to deliver the essence of this beautiful place to your glass. McLaren Vale folks like to think that their region on the Gulf St Vincent, patron of viticulturers, has “the best Mediterranean climate on Earth.”

With this foremost in mind, Yangarra Estate is devoted solely to producing wines from the best grape varieties of the southern Rhone, which lies on the north-west Mediterranean coast.

Yangarra’s combination of rare geologies, moderate altitude, abundant sunshine and cool evening breezes make it perfect for growing varieties that thrive in these moderate maritime environments.

Our respect of this special piece of country is evident in the wines we make from its grapes - every Yangarra Estate wine is a confident reflection of the nature of this land.

Deep, bright red/purple colour. Fresh and clean on the nose, with berries, cherries and spices to sniff. Really lovely aromas and flavours, understated and still evolving. The palate is fine and long with supple tannins and great harmony. A superb glass of shiraz.

A dense deep red to purple hue, a characteristic that is common across the Yangarra reds. The nose centres on plum and blackberry fruit with liquorice strap and unsweetened cocoa. The dark fruits on the nose take a more vibrant, almost blue fruit like aspect with juicy acidity and fine tannin giving the lattice for oak to gently interject with the wine providing layers of flavour and interest. The finish sees more savoury almost peppery impact with length of dark berry fruits.

Utterly Delicious!

94 Points

I remember tasting samples of this from barrel with Peter Fraser back in April, 2018. It looked fabulous then in its infancy and it is even better now. An incredible wine for the asking price. Blue fruits come in spades. Coming off Yangarra's certified biodynamic and organic vineyards, it's a wine with wonderful and engaging depth. Those berry flavours get in deep, a result of 50% whole berries used with approximately 20% whole bunches. Violet and purple flower perfume diffuse elegantly from the glass. A little bit ferrous and a little bit minerally, white pepper and earthy feels add interest. There's no chance of evading the generous fruit mind you. It pulsates in gentle waves. Fine tannins draw a long bow and persist much longer than expected finishing dusty and powdery. Utterly delicious! Drink to ten years+

This has a very attractive, fresh and spicy nose with rich, darker-plum and blackberry aromas. Chocolate and raspberries, too. This is a vintage that delivers bold, fleshy, darker fruit. Supple, fleshy texture and nice chew on the finish. Drink or hold.
