Wine Summary Image

A jewel of the Yarra Valley, Yering Station produces world-class cool climate wines that proudly exhibit regional authenticity and varietal integrity. Particularly renowned for their classic renditions of Chardonnay, Pinot Noir, Shiraz Viognier and Cabernet Sauvignon.

Yering Station has been core to the Victorian wine story for almost two centuries.

Established in 1838 by the pioneering Ryrie brothers, Yering Station was originally a small vineyard – the first in the state of Victoria. Changing hands between families throughout the centuries that followed, the Rathbone family ultimately purchased the property in 1996 and have since expanded it into a world-class winery and destination.

Expert Reviews

96 Point Rated - Huon Hooke The Real Review - Top Ranked

"Deepish red/purple, a colour of excellent depth and hue. It's dark-fruited, showing dark plum, black cherry, vanilla and toasty smoky oak tinges. Complex! Full-bodied and dense, rich and fleshy. Great concentration and texture; velvety, fleshy softness. Deliciously succulent. An outstanding pinot"

Winery Tasting Notes

COLOUR

Carmine.

NOSE

Blackberry and plum with a lick of spice.

PALATE

Rich black berries, cherries and plum fruits meld beautifully with the peppercorn and anise spices. Subtle toasted notes. Balanced and complex, the mid-palate seamlessly extends to a long and graceful finish. Velvet-like tannins support the fruit and enhance the overall opulence.

CELLAR

Drink now or carefully cellar until 2028.

Winery Profile

Red Five Star Winery - Australian Wine Companion 2014

The historic Yering Station (or at least the portion of the property on which the cellar door sales and vineyard are established) was purchased by the Rathbone family in 1996 and is also the site of the Yarrabank joint venture with French Champagne house Devaux (see separate entry). A spectacular and very large winery has been erected, handling the Yarrabank sparkling wines and the Yering Station table wines. It immediately became one of the focal points of the Yarra Valley, particularly as the historic Chateau Yering, where luxury accommodation and fine dining are available, is next door. Yering Stations own restaurant is open every day for lunch, providing the best lunchtime cuisine in the Valley. In 2008 Tom Carson moved on and was replaced by William (Willy) Lunn, a graduate of Adelaide University with more than 24 years cool climate winemaking experience around the world, including at Petaluma, Shaw + Smith and Argyle Winery (Oregon). Exports to all major markets.
